Should I convert HEIC to PNG or JPG?

Why are the PNG files so much bigger than my HEIC originals?
HEIC uses modern lossy compression while PNG stores the image losslessly. A 2 MB HEIC photo can easily become a 15 MB PNG — that's expected and doesn't indicate a problem.
